“De Speelluden” is a folklore peasant dance group, founded in 1967. The name of the group comes from people travelling from village to village and entertaining the inhabitants with music, song and dance in the 19th century. This tradition is continued by this folklore dance group.
From the heart of Westervoort, in the east of the Netherlands, the old peasant customs and habits are shown both within and outside the country. The repertoire consists of a colourful mix of merry dances of around 1900 and a collection of old-time songs.
The group uses several costumes, for example regional peasant daywear, Westervoort Sunday dress and a party dress town people used to wear.
